Want to know one of the best kept secrets in all of Vancouver, WA? If I tell you do you promise not to tell anyone? ;)

Day 68 of 365…

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Clark Dining Room located inside Gaiser Hall at Clark College. This hidden treasure has been a favorite of mine for years. While I worked at Clark County Department of Assessment & GIS this was a place my department loved to visit regularly. Since going back into full time real estate the last 7 plus years it has remained a favorite.

This restaurant is operated by the Culinary Students of Clark College. This is not just some little “so-so” food establishment. This is a full fare, gourmet meal with prices that will blow your mind. Clam chowder with sweet rollThe menu is different every week and features a wonderful selection of full entrees, sandwiches and salads. My friend and I were greeted with a warm hello and a baguette covered with some tasty herb spread and cheese. We then ordered our meals. All meals come with a roll and choice of soup or salad. We each had their Clam Chowder. It was incredible. I’d say it rivaled any chowder I’ve had on the Oregon Coast. The rolls were lightly glazed and served with a honey butter that was sweet beyond sweet.

Filipino halibut with coconut adobo sauceMy friend Mike ordered the Italian Fettuccine Clam Sauce with Bacon (which he loved) and I ordered the Filipino Style Halibut with Coconut Adobo Sauce. It came with sweet cooked carrots and a very tasty rice. Let me tell you, it was amazing! The halibut was well prepared, the sauce was excellent. The rice and carrots were just right. Then, we finished off our meals with some of the best brownies I’ve ever had.

If there was anything I could complain about this place it would be their hours. Because it’s run by the culinary students they have a very limited schedule. If you’re concerned about them being open be sure to call first. During school breaks they are not typically open. You also want to keep in mind they do not take “plastic” for payment.

Most of their meals run in the price range of $5 to $7 and would cost you at least $15 or more in any other restaurant. They are located in Gaiser Hall on the north end of the Clark College campus. Head over to the Clark Dining Room. I promise you’ll love it!
